HUSBAND + WIFE ADVENTURERS
2 Extreme Medicine Doctors
Pushing Boundaries
The Polar Swim Challenge | Ice swim at both poles | Sep - Nov 2024
Around GB Row | 1683 mile circumnavigation row | May 2022
Atlantic Row | 3219 mile transcontinental ocean row | Dec 2021
2022 saw the Emergensea Duo take on both of the ‘World's Toughest Rows' in the same year raising an amazing £40,000 for frontline medical charities.
2024 saw Adam & Charlie quite literally going to the ends of the earth to take on an extreme swimming challenge. They completed an official Ice swim in the frigid waters of both the Arctic Circle and Antarctica in nothing more than a standard swimming costume, aka speedos for Adam. No wetsuits, no lard, no excuses; bringing a whole new meaning to ‘baby it’s cold outside’!
The pair pushed their bodies harder than ever before requiring significant physiological adaptation to be able to survive the extreme conditions where the water temperatures were between -1.4°C and 3.3°C. Only a handful of people have ever achieved an ice swim in both polar regions! Charlies Antarctica swim is the coldest ever official International Ice Swimming Association swim.
MORE THAN A TEST
From A&E to the Sea
In 2021-2022 Adam & Charlie, two Extreme Medicine doctors temporarily hung up their scrubs and took on both of the 'World's Toughest Rows' in just a 7 month period; the first in the world to do so despite having never rowed before. In doing so they became the first married couple to successfully complete the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge and the first mixed pair in the world to attempt a circumnavigation of Great Britain.
They raced for 3219 miles across the Atlantic and 1683 miles around the coast of GB, battling gale force winds, the hottest UK temperatures on record, severe blisters, sleep deprived hallucinations & being stalked by a shark!
